| spa |
dc.description.abstract | The small rice stink bug, Oebalus poecilus Dallas, 1851 (Hemiptera:Pentatomidae), is a pest distributed throughout Argentina's and South America's ricegrowing region, which can cause yield losses of up to 80%. At present, the control of this pest is carried out by chemical control, using commercial products of medium and high environmental impact. The most commonly used insecticides are phosphorus, pyrethroids and carbamates, which have a prolonged persistence in water and a great detrimental effect on aquatic fauna. Currently, the high demand for solutions to these problems motivates the development of new techniques for insects' management and control, in order to reduce the environmental impact. The employment of biological insecticides accomplish this aim, with good values of insects control, what makes them safe and efficient. This thesis evaluates the pathogenicity of different strains of entomopathogenic fungi (HE) on O. poecilus as a tool in an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan to reduce the presence of the pest in rice. Insects were collected in rice growing areas from North-Centre of Entre Ríos, from where native strains of HE were isolated. The pathogenicity and virulence of several strains were determinated in laboratory, together with the average lethal concentration (LC50) of HE Beauveria bassiana's Bb 301 strain (strain selected for the studies). Also, it was analyzed the compatibility between Bb 301 strain and chemical products, which include the following herbicides: Glyphosate, Imazapic + Imazethapyr and Sodium Bispyribac; and the following insecticides: Dinotefuran, Thiametoxan + Lambdacyhalothrin, Imidacloprid + Beta-Cyfluthrin. It was determined that all are compatible with strain Bb 301. | eng |
