Seroprevalencia de Toxoplasma gondii en cerdos de la provincia de La Pampa, Argentina

Abstract

La toxoplasmosis es una importante enfermedad zoonótica con distribución mundial. En Argentina existe escasa información sobre la prevalencia en cerdos. El objetivo del este trabajo fue determinar la prevalencia de anticuerpos contra Toxoplasma gondii en cerdos. Se visitaron 40 unidades productivas de 17 localidades de la provincia de La Pampa. Se obtuvieron 86 muestras de suero de cerdos de la categoría de engorde (110 kg pv) y 98 muestras de suero de cerdos del plantel reproductor (250 kg pv). Las muestras fueron testeadas por la Prueba de Aglutinación de Látex Toxotest Latex y la titulación se realizó con Toxotest HAI (Wiener Laboratorios S.A.I.C.). Se consideraron positivos los títulos de anticuerpos ≥ 1:8. La proporción global a T. gondii global del muestreo fue de 29,35% (IC: 23,40%, 35,29%), correspondiendo el 11,11% (IC: 23,40%; 35,29%) para la categoría de engorde (100 kg pv), (n=6), y el 88,89% (IC: 80,74%, 97,04%) para la categoría de reproductores (250kg pv), (n=48). Teniendo en cuenta que, la carne derivada de animales seropositivos puede representar una fuente potencial de infección para los humanos, es que resulta de interés obtener información epidemiológica actualizada en distintas especies de abasto.

Toxoplasmosis is an important zoonotic disease with worldwide distribution. In Argentina, there is little information on the prevalence in pigs. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii in pigs. Forty swine farm from 17 locations in the province of La Pampa. A total of 86 serum samples were obtained from fattening pigs (110 kg bw) and 98 serum samples from breeding pigs (250 kg bw). The Toxotest Latex Agglutination Test tested the samples and the titration was carried out with Toxotest HAI (Wiener Laboratorios S.A.I.C.). Antibody titers ≥ 1:8 were considered positive. The overall prevalence of T. gondii in the sampling was 29.35% (CI: 23.40%, 35.29%), corresponding to 11.11% (CI: 23.40%; 35.29%) for the fattening category (100 kg bw), (n=6), and 88.89% (IC: 80.74%, 97.04%) for the breeding category (250kg bw), (n=48). Bearing in mind that meat derived from seropositive animals may represent a potential source of infection for humans, updated epidemiological information is of interest to begin new research studies.
