Ayudas mecánicas para poda, cosecha y otras tareas culturales
Abstract
Nuestra generación está atravesando profundos cambios sociales, económicos, políticos y tecnológicos. En muy pocas oportunidades en la historia de la humanidad se ha transitado por modificaciones tan vertiginosas, hecho que está incidiendo en nuestra cultura y ha puesto en crisis los modelos vigentes durante la etapa industrial.
La producción primaria de alimentos en general y la fruticultura en particular no están exentas de esta situación. Por ello,

Nuestra generación está atravesando profundos cambios sociales, económicos, políticos y tecnológicos. En muy pocas oportunidades en la historia de la humanidad se ha transitado por modificaciones tan vertiginosas, hecho que está incidiendo en nuestra cultura y ha puesto en crisis los modelos vigentes durante la etapa industrial.
La producción primaria de alimentos en general y la fruticultura en particular no están exentas de esta situación. Por ello, el contexto de los próximos tiempos deberá considerar mayores costos de la energía fósil y su sustitución gradual, además de riesgos crecientes de deterioro ambiental y cambio climático.
Grandes saltos tecnológicos se están dando en el campo de la genética, las comunicaciones, la electrónica y la informática. Se estima que en 2020 habrá acceso a Internet en todo el planeta, de modo que los productores podrán contar con información en tiempo real para la toma de decisiones.
El escenario a corto plazo es mayor población pero, paradójicamente, menor cantidad de personal para operaciones manuales y aumento de los costos de producción en cultivos intensivos como consecuencia del incremento del costo de la mano de obra. Este contexto implica el desarrollo de un paradigma que considere el crecimiento de la productividad poniendo énfasis en la calidad del trabajo, lo que permitiría la generación de un círculo virtuoso y daría sostenibilidad al empleo rural, que está en competencia con otras actividades de menor exigencia física y mejor remuneradas.
Casi la totalidad de las plantaciones comerciales de frutales de pepita con destino a consumo fresco del mundo son podadas y cosechadas en forma manual. Esto se debe a la complejidad que significa contar con equipos que seleccionen los cortes de acuerdo con criterios fisiológicos en la poda y físico-biológicos en la cosecha (color, tamaño, forma, defectos). Las iniciativas de mecanización en poda y cosecha en frutales se han visto focalizadas sólo en aquellos cultivos con destino industrial, donde los pequeños daños físicos no alteran la calidad del producto.
En la fruta para consumo fresco, el aspecto cosmético del producto tiene tanta importancia como el sabor, color u otras características organolépticas. Por lo tanto, el método manual de cosecha seguirá siendo predominante, y los esfuerzos de desarrollo tecnológico deberán estar dirigidos a mejorar la capacidad y calidad de trabajo de los operarios. Esta tendencia estimuló el desarrollo de ayudas mecánicas comúnmente llamadas “plataformas móviles” para poda, cosecha y otras tareas culturales.
