“open-top chambers” (OTC) (Chapin y Shaver, 1985; Robinson et al., 1998; Xu et al., 2012) son las de menor costo de aplicación y con buenos resultados (Aronson y McNulty, 2009). Las OTC tienen un buen desempeño en pastizales y biomas de tundra con alta incidencia de la radiación solar y han sido utilizadas para evaluar los efectos del calentamiento de verano y en distintas estaciones
del año en la biota terrestre de ambientes sin cambios importantes en los regímenes hídricos de sus suelos (Bokhors et al., 2013). La variación en los efectos de aumento de temperatura por las OTC en ambientes con comportamientos extremos de humedad no está bien documentada. Este trabajo tuvo como objetivo poner a prueba las OTC en sistemas de mallines de Patagonia norte, en donde
la disponibilidad de agua en el suelo es cíclica: máxima en invierno y mínima en verano. En particular se evaluó si la variación de la humedad del suelo y la condición inicial del pastizal como consecuencia del deterioro por sobrepastoreo histórico tienen un impacto significativo sobre el efecto de calentamiento del aire.
