Although there is growing interest in reducing herbicides application, its use in pastoral systems increased at the rate of livestock intensification. The impact of weeds on productivity, persistence and nutritional value of forage species in establishment was analyzed. 24 plots of 1.5 m2 were sowed in a factorial arrangement of 2 relative densities of Bromus wildenowii (Bw, annual) and Dactylis glomerata (Dg, perennial) × 4 densities of an annual winter weed (n = 3). The response variables were aerial net primary production (PPNA), density of tillers and soluble fiber contents in neutral detergent (NDF) and crude protein (PB). Productivity and persistence were analyzed using hyperbolic models. The effect on the quality of the forage was analyzed assuming that the net effect of the weeds results from the combination of its direct effect on the concentration of PB and NDF of both components of the pasture and its indirect effect on the relative importance of both. Weeds produced: (1) A reduction in productivity and persistence of the two species; (2) A greater effect on the productivity and persistence of the pasture, and of Dg in particular, when Bw dominated; (3) A direct and positive effect on the PB content of Bw, when Dg dominated; (4) No effect on the Dg / Bw ratio; (5) A positive net effect on the PB of the pastures when Dg dominated. In summary, the pastures with less Bw were more persistent and productive thanks to the greater contribution of Dg and also showed a higher concentration of PB probably because the concentration of N increases as the PPNA (law of dilution of N) decreases. In the future, it would be interesting to know the effect of weeds on pastures after establishment.eng
