| es_AR |
dc.description.abstract | Mycoplasma belong to the class Mollicutes and are the smallest self-replicating prokaryotic microorganisms that exist in nature. These organisms lack the cell wall and have a limited biosynthetic capacity, which determines a strict dependence on the host for their nutrition and shelter. Mycoplasma are inhabitants of the respiratory, urogenital, conjunctival mucosal surfaces, gatrointestinal tract and mammary gland; being able to cause respiratory disease, otitis, mastitis, arthritis, reproductive disease, meningitis and conjunctivitis. There are more than eleven species of Mycoplasma that have been isolated from cattle, among them, M. bovis is considered the most prevalent in the USA and in some European countries. Therefore, most of the current information comes from case reports and research work on this species. The general objective of this work was to determine the species of Mycoplasma that produce infections in dairy cattle in Argentina and to develop a method of identification of the most prevalent species. For this purpose, a search of the infectious agent was carried out on samples of bulk tank milk, individual cow's milk and calf organs. Then, the organisms were identified to species level and two techniques of MULTIPLEX-PCR were developed, through which M. bovis, M. californicum, M. canadense and M. leacchi could be identified in a simple way. This is the first report of isolation of M. leacchi from diseased cattle in Argentina. This development will facilitate the characterization of Mycoplasma species most frequently isolated from infections in dairy cattle. | eng |
