Explorando el suelo con un enfoque didáctico a través de un prototipo antiadherente biomimético

El uso de energía de manera eficiente es un aspecto relevante para la agricultura moderna. Los fenómenos de superficie, tal como la adhesión y la fricción del suelo a las herramientas de laboreo son algunos de los factores que contribuyen a un consumo excesivo de energía. La adherencia del suelo puede aumentar el consumo de combustible en un 30 a 50 % con un impacto directo en las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero. Con el objetivo de reducir la adhesividad del suelo a las herramientas de laboreo y contribuir a un uso eficiente en términos energéticos, la biomimética, a partir de observar y emular a la Naturaleza, ofrece múltiples soluciones tecnológicas. Una de ellas, es el desarrollo de diseños superficiales sobre una herramienta de uso agrícola inspirados en la microtopografía de la cutícula del tórax de Diloboderus abderus (bicho torito) [Patente: US9,137,937, B2]. Para divulgar este nuevo enfoque tecnológico, se propuso una actividad didáctica que consistió en realizar la construcción conceptual entre los efectos de la producción agropecuaria en términos de uso de energía en un marco de la variabilidad climática, relacionando algunas características de los suelos, la influencia de la adhesividad a las herramientas de laboreo y la Naturaleza como fuente de inspiración innovadora para el desarrollo de nuevas estrategias para mitigar el cambio climático. Para trabajar estos conceptos se realizó un ensayo en los suelos de la huerta de la Escuela Agraria N°1 de Hurlingham (Buenos Aires) junto a estudiantes de nivel medio de 5º año. La actividad consistió en comparar la adhesividad en palas de jardinería de superficie lisa con otras de superficie antiadherente (prototipo biomimético desarrollado), en distintos tipos de suelos. En la huerta se planteó un circuito de estaciones, una de entrenamiento, tres parcelas de experimentación (cada una con un suelo diferente) y una de pesado. Los estudiantes realizaron la prueba individualmente y sin inducción previa. A lo largo del recorrido, utilizaron ambos modelos de palas en cada parcela. El método de ensayo consistió en pesar las palas, excavar tres veces y descartar el suelo removido en un recipiente y al finalizar, volver a pesar. Luego de recorrer el circuito, cada estudiante recibió una clave alfabética para incorporar a la actividad lúdica integradora grupal. Cada clave contribuía a la formación de las palabras, “naturaleza” y “tecnología”, las cuales resultaron disparadoras para trabajar el concepto de biomimética. A su vez, los estudiantes participaron de una experiencia sensorial, a través del análisis de texturas de distintos tipos de suelos y de su adhesividad. AI finalizar la actividad, los estudiantes participaron de un cierre grupal donde trabajaron estableciendo relaciones entre los conceptos adhesividad, textura de suelo y biomimética como solución innovadora para mejorar el uso de energía en la producción agropecuaria. Además, basándose en el empleo de dos modelos de pala, detectaron que el prototipo con superficie antiadherente mostró una mejor performance entorno a la adhesividad del suelo.
