El fenómeno ENSO y la agricultura pampeana: impactos económicos en trigo, maíz, girasol y soja

Abstract

Se presentan estimaciones económicas de los efectos del cambio climático generado por las fases del fenómeno ENSO sobre la agricultura pampeana para los cultivos de trigo, maíz, girasol y soja. Se estimó el diferencial de utilidad y rentabilidad en las distintas fases del evento en las principales zonas productoras. Se muestra que los impactos productivos y económicos tienen características específicas por zona y cultivo. En la zona norte, los efectos asociada a las fases climáticas resultan negativos, con disminuciones de $147 millones/campaña. El efecto Niña resulta particularmente fuerte por su impacto sobre los cultivos de maíz y soja. Para la zona sur, con cultivos de trigo y girasol, los efectos son positivos para la fase Niño ($16.5 millones/campaña) y negativos para la fase Niña ($10.8 millones/campaña).

Economic estimates of the effects caused by the phases of the phenomenon ENSO on the Argentine agriculture are presented for wheat, corn, sunflower and soybean. It was considered the differentials of returns and profitability in the different phases of the event in the main growing areas of the Pampas. It is shown that the productive and economic impacts have particular characteristics for each area and crop. In the north area, the effects associated to the climatic phases are negative, with decreases of $147 millons/year. The Niña effect is particularly strong, given its impacts on corn and soybean. For the south area -wheat and sunflower-, the effects are positive for the Niño phase ($16.5 millons/year) and negative for the Niña phase ($10.8 millons/year).
