Relación entre peso al nacimiento y medidas torácicas en terneros de raza Criollo Argentino

Abstract

La raza Criollo Argentino se caracteriza por su facilidad de parto. Dificultades en el momento de la parición pueden ocasionar pérdidas de terneros, mayores controles y asistencia de las hembras y pérdidas de vientres en las circunstancias más severas. Los inconvenientes al momento del parto han sido relacionados con el peso al nacer del ternero, el área pélvica de la madre y con la relación entre ambas variables. Se menciona además a la conformación de la cría como otro componente de importancia. El objetivo de este trabajo fue relacionar el peso al nacimiento del ternero (PN) con sus medidas corporales: ancho (AT), profundidad (PT), perímetro (PERI) y área del tórax (AREA). Para ello se utilizó la información de 67 terneros nacidos en el año 2019 pertenecientes al rodeo de bovinos Criollo Argentino del IIACS - INTA Leales, Tucumán. Las variables fueron analizadas a través de correlaciones y regresiones lineales. PN, PERI, PT y AREA presentaron correlaciones positivas elevadas (0.87, 0.91 y 0.76 respectivamente). AT fue la única variable cuya correlación con PN resultó no significativa. Las medidas corporales registradas indicarían que las dificultades al parto deberían estar presentes en la raza, por lo que es necesario estudiar otros factores que permitan entender la facilidad de parto en Bovino Criollo Argentino.

The Argentine Creole breed is characterized by its calving ease. Difficulties at calving can lead to calf losses, increased controls and assistance from females, and cows losses in the most severe circumstances. The inconveniences at calving have been related to the calf's birth weight, the mother's pelvic area and the relationship between both variables. The conformation of the calf is also mentioned as another important component. The objective of this work was to relate the calf's birth weight (PN) with its body measurements: width (AT), depth (PT), perimeter (PERI) and chest area (AREA). For this, the information of 67 calves born in the year 2019 belonging to the rodeo of Argentine Criollo cattle of the IIACS INTA Leales, Tucumán was used. Variables were analyzed through correlations and linear regressions. PN, PERI, PT and AREA presented high positive correlations (0.87, 0.91 and 0.76 respectively). AT was the only variable whose correlation with PN was not significant. The recorded body measurements would indicate that difficulties in calving should be present in the breed, so it is necessary to study other factors that allow us to understand the calving ease in Argentinean Cattle.
