Primer aislamiento de Herpes Virus Bovino tipo 1 en bovinos de Patagonia, Argentina

Abstract

Se describe un brote IBR con aislamiento de Herpes Virus Bovino tipo 1 (BoHV1) en la Patagonia argentina. Durante los meses de junio-julio de 2013 tuvo lugar un brote de rinitis y conjutivitis en un lote de terneros confinados en una recría a corral en el Valle 16 de Octubre, al noroeste de la provincia de Chubut. Debido a que los síntomas eran compatibles con la infeccion por BoVH1, se procedió a tomar muestras de secreciones oculares y nasales de 12 animales y muestras de suero de 7 animales. A partir de las muestras de secreciones se lograron aislar 10 cepas de BoHV1. Si bien el hallazgo no permite concluir sobre el rol del BoHV1 en el brote, constituye el primer reporte de aislamiento de BoVH1 y confirma los trabajos previos sobre evidencia serológica de su circulación en la Patagonia argentina.

An outbreak of IBR with the isolation of Bovine Herpes Virus type 1 (BoHV1) in Argentinean Patagonia is described. During June-July 2013, an outbreak of rhinitis and conjunctivitis occurred in a group of calves confined to a farm in 16 de Octubre Valley, northwest of Chubut. Because the symptoms were compatible with the infection with BoHV1, samples of ocular and nasal secretions from 12 animals and serum samples from 7 animals were collected. Ten strains of BoHV1 from the secretion samples were isolated. Although the finding does not allow to conclude about the role of BoHV1 in the outbreak, it constitutes the first report of isolation of BoHV1 and confirms previous studies on serological evidence of its circulation in Argentinean Patagonia.
