Uso de zeolitas para mitigar la volatilización de NH3 post aplicación de efluentes de tambo
Abstract
Para satisfacer la creciente demanda mundial de alimentos será necesario aumentar los rendimientos de los cultivos, esto implicará entre otras cosas aumentar el uso de fertilizantes nitrogenados. Para satisfacer la creciente demanda mundial de alimentos será necesario aumentar los rendimientos de los cultivos, esto implicará entre otras cosas aumentar el uso de fertilizantes nitrogenados. Una alternativa a los fertilizantes sintéticos tradicionales son las enmiendas orgánicas, como el efluente liquido de tambo (ELT). Sin embargo, el nitrógeno (N) contenido en las enmiendas es susceptible de ser perdido como volatilización de amoniaco (NH3) con potenciales impactos ambientales. Además, las pérdidas de N reducen su disponibilidad para las plantas, lo que subraya la importancia de minimizarlas para una producción sostenible. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar el uso de Zeolita como estrategia para minimizar la volatilización de NH3 luego de la aplicación de ELT al suelo. Para ello, se realizó un ensayo a campo, donde se midió la volatilización de NH3 después de la aplicación de los tratamientos ELT, ELT con zeolita (Zeo) y testigo (test). La cantidad de N aplicada con el ELT fue de 120kg de N/ha. La volatilización de NH3 desde el suelo acumulada durante los 10 días que duró el ensayo fue 263,60; 164,03 y 135,55 g NH3 ha-1 con aplicación de ELT, Zeo y testigo respectivamente. Es decir, la volatilización de NH3 desde el suelo con aplicación de ELT fue aproximadamente el doble que desde el tratamiento Zeo, siendo esta última similar a la del suelo testigo. No se observaron diferencias significativas (p< 0,05) en el rendimiento de la pastura. Según nuestros resultados, la aplicación conjunta de ELT con Zeo podría ser una alternativa efectiva para disminuir las perdidas por volatilización de NH3 sin perdidas de rendimiento de la pastura. Es decir, ser una alternativa válida de manejo de los efluentes tendiente a reducir las pérdidas de N por volatilización de NH3. Es recomendable realizar estudios en otras situaciones climáticas.
